$4.95M of his year 1 signing bonuses, $4.95M of his year 2 signing bonuses, and $5.77M of his year 7 signing bonuses are deferred. Jarvis will be paid a total of $15.67M for that deferred salary on 01 July 2032.
Deferred salary accrues interest, so the actual amount charged against the salary cap is reduced. This amount compounds yearly, so the $4.95M first year signing bonuses only cost Carolina between $3M and $4M in cap space. Consequently, his cap hit is lowered from $7.9M to about $7.4M saving Carolina almost $500k each season.
